Judge's commentary: Writer’s Digest
The function of a good book is to open the eyes of its
readers to new philosophies, all the while showing them that these
"alien" philosophies may not, in fact, differ much from their own.
Judged by that standard, The Tolerance of Hinduism succeeds. I know very little about
Hinduism, but this book presented a persuasive elucidation of the religion's
broad-mindedness. The fictional story of Herman Schneider was both touching and
illustrative-by placing these teachings within a human context, the author
makes it easy to understand their relevance to our lives. The book is brief,
but it will certainly leave the reader intrigued about the precepts and
principles of Hinduism. The telling of this story was clearly a labor of love
for JR. Singh, and I hope he has success in reaching a wider audience.

Words of Faith
Having dissolved every form of
life, I made the world motionless.
Alone in darkness, I am
blissful in the pure calmness of eternity.
Emerging now from emptiness to
re-create the world,
the universe
quickly becomes My body.
Showing all that
exists on Earth and above, I reveal Myself in infinite diversity.
Call Me the Almighty for I am
unborn, undying, all-pervading and limitless.
I have no heavenly or fixed
abode, since I pervade the entire universe.
Nature is an uncanny part of
Me through which I fashion all forms of life.
All beings
emanate from Me and are driven to perform actions for their survival.
Multiplying and becoming
knowledgeable by their own efforts,
humans become
creators in My creation.
Driven by selfish
desires, many become untruthful, hence they drift away from Me.
Behold, I
fashion humans with a body to perform actions, a soul to sustain them,
and a personality-self comprised of thoughts, feelings and
consciousness.
Know the soul to be a spark of
My inner divinity that is not sinful and
cannot be
destroyed.
Like the cyclical nature of
the universe, the soul takes on a new human body
in a cycle of
birth, death and rebirth.
Behold, your
present personality-self was fashioned by the effects of your actions in your
previous life.
Performing acts of goodness
enables your soul to merge with Me, hence
liberating you from the
sorrows of sickness, disease, suffering and death.
Life is an
experience of both joy and sorrow in which all that are born must die,
since time leads to the path of decay.
Confused are those who are
pretentious, untruthful and lost in greed.
Affable and peaceful are those
who are
contented,
truthful and compassionate.
No one is
entirely perfect, hence renouncing your duty or all earthly possessions
to solely
worship or meditate on Me will not make you a perfected saint.
Performing selfless actions
and following what your conscience tells you
is right and
meaningful
brings inner
peace to one who strives for the betterment of all.
Retain a sense
of balance, avoid extremes and elevate yourself by your own efforts.
Know that the arrogant
worshippers of Me who ill-treat others
and are
difficult to reason with
are fanatics.
Performing acts of goodness is
better than having religious beliefs that are
too rigid and
lack sense and significance.
Your body is a tool to perform
acts of benevolence, therefore be selective of
the types of
foods you consume to keep it healthy.
Considering the fragility of
life and the impermanence of all things,
reflect on the
happy memories of being with loved ones
to alleviate
your sorrows in times of grief.
To sustain the harmony and
order of things, those selected to govern
should be
levelheaded in creating laws
that are fair
and purposeful to prevent chaos.
Know that at the end of
another cycle of creation and destruction, I will again
disrupt the
cosmic order of things and fill the universe with darkness.
Once more, emerging from a
state of almost non-existence, I will again
bring new beings
to life through My magical mystery of nature. …J.R.S.
